Mario Kart Drinking Game Rules

You can’t drink and drive for real so might as well do it in a controlled environment. You know, the ones filled with shells, bananas, and lightning bolts. Here are some drinking games you can play the next time you and your friends play Mario Kart.

Racing Mode Drinking Games

Drunk Driving

Everyone starts out with a full drink before the race begins. In order to win this game you must finish your drink before crossing the finish line in first place. The hook for this game is that you cannot drink and drive at the same time. You must pull over to the side of the road, stop, and place the controller down before you can start drinking.

Variations and House Rules you can use. Feel free to mix and match on how you see fit.

  • You cannot chug your drink until you are done with lap 1.
  • You can stop in the middle of the road before you start drinking.
  • You can drink after you’ve gotten hit by an object.

Sight Seeing

This game is for those gamers who know the maps fairly well. Each player will need 1-3 shot glasses filled with a beverage of your choice in front of them. Each of these shot glasses represents a landmark on the map you have to visit before you cross the finish line. You must come to a complete stop at the landmark and to celebrate your visit you must yell “Cheers!” before taking your shot. Locations must be landmarks that are off the road of the map. For example, Princess Peach’s castle in N64’s Royal Raceway track would be an example of one of these landmarks. You may visit them in any order you see fit.

Variations and House Rules you can use. Feel free to mix and match on how you see fit.

  • Set the order of which landmarks you must visit ahead of time.
  • One single landmark must be visited each lap

Battle Mode Drinking Games

Battle Shots

Each player will need 3 shot glasses filled with a beverage of your choice in front of them. Each of these shot glasses represent a balloon you have. Once you lose a balloon you must take a shot before you can continue driving. Be the last driving left to win the game.

Variations and House Rules you can use. Feel free to mix and match on how you see fit.

  • When you destroy an opponent’s balloon you take one of their shot glasses and drink it.
  • Winner passes out their remaining shot glasses to the opponent(s) of their choice.

Headhunter

Create strips of paper with the character’s name on it and place them in a hat. Before the start of each round, each player will pull a name out of the hat and keep it to themselves. Additionally, each person should have a drink in front of them. Once everyone has their target, start the round. If you get your target out, they must take a drink. When your target is out of the game you may go after anyone else in the game. If you get another person out after your initial target, that person must take two drinks.

Variations and House Rules you can use. Feel free to mix and match on how you see fit.

  • You can replace the drink with 3 shot glasses representing a person’s balloon. When you lose a balloon you must drink one of your shot glasses.
  • Once you draw your target, place the strip of paper back in the bucket. Multiple people can have the same target now.
  • Winner passes out their remaining shot glasses to the opponent(s) of their choice.

Protect the King

In this game one person is the king and another person is the knight protecting the king. The other two players are tasked with attacking the king. Only the attackers and protector are able to use weapons unless the protector looses all of their balloons. In that case the king may attack. Anyone that looses all of their balloons or lose the game must take a drink. Role changes every round based on the following.

  • Knock out the king – You take the role of the king in the next round
  • Knock out the protector – You take the role of the protector on the next round
  • In the case one person knocks out both the king and the protector, then that person chooses who their protector will be
